How to Tap on iPhones

Near Field Communication (NFC) technology gives you the ability to make exchanges between electronic devices. NFC transmissions require close-range proximity in order for the technology to work.

For XS and Later Models

Current iPhone models have the NFC reader automatically turned on. Simply tap on your lockscreen to “turn on” the screen, bring your phone closer to the UTAGG and it will send a notification to open a webpage with your desired browser.

For Models Before XS

It’s important to note that iPhones older than XS don’t support background NFC reading. This means that older iPhones will not be able to automatically scan NFC tags. To activate the NFC reader on older phones, follow these steps below.

  • Access your Control Center by swiping up from the bottom of the screen, or swipe down from the top tight-hand corner of the screen
  • Tap the NFC symbol (it looks like a vertical Wi-Fi symbol) to turn on the NFC Tag Reader
  • Moving your phone closer to the NFC tag will read it
  • You can also access the NFC Tag Reader through the Settings app. Go to Control Center > More Controls > NFC Tag Reader

However, the XS and later iPhones do not support this option.
